Rourkela: Beating major rail stations like Sambalpur, Tata and Bokaro under Chakradharpur division of South Eastern Railway, Rourkela topped in cleanliness, according to a survey conducted by IRCTC as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Bokaro stood second while Tata station got third position in the survey which took into consideration three important parameters like infrastructure, sanitation and passengers’ convenience, station authorities Thursday said.
A total of 407 stations including 332 A-category and 75 A-1 category featured on the list. Some prominent stations like Rourkela, Tata, Jharsuguda, Bokaro and Sambalpur under Chakradharpur division were included in the Mission. While opinions of 300 passengers were sought for A-category stations, 400 passengers had put up their view in A-1 category stations. Rourkela comes among A-category stations, it was learnt.
The opinions of the passengers were taken in December and sent to Railways. It is said that the success in the survey would help Rourkela station to get special division status and to include itself in the list of model stations.
Meanwhile, a baby-feeding corner was set up for lactating mothers near the second class waiting room of the station. Rourkela is the only station under Chakradharpur division where such a facility is available, officials said.
