Balasore: Debapriya Samal, who had been recently honoured by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for rescuing Sujata Panda, the daughter-in-law of former INA soldier Laxmi Panda, from Balasore railway station, was allegedly manhandled by RPF police and a TTE in a train Wednesday.
The TT allegedly threw away the certificate given to him by the Chief Minister. He was deprived of appearing for an internal examination of Vidyasagar University at Midnapore in West Bengal.
Debapriya had boarded the Janasatabdi Express from Balasore station for Kharagpur. A TT examined his ticket but was not convinced even though the latter showed his ticket booked for monthly travel, his identity cards and the certificate he had received from the district collector. The TT handed Debapriya to Kharagpur RPF police.
Debapriya had informed the mater to some of his relatives over cell phone. Alerted, Balasore RPF chief JN Mohapatra contacted his Kharagpur counterpart. By then, Kharagpur RPF had fined him Rs 440 and handed him a receipt of the fine before sending him to Balasore by Shalimar-Sikandarabad train.
He reached Balasore at 3 pm. He felt frustrated as he was deprived of appearing for his internal examination.
Debapriya had found Sujata Panda helpless at Balasore railway station in April and rescued her. She had taken a wrong train to her home in Koraput after being honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bhubaneswar. PNN
