Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: It was the last ride for Satyabrata Pattanaik with his daughter Sheetal Pattanaik, with whom he was very much attached. The unfortunate incident took place just at the moment when Satyabrata, along with his daughter, was passing by on a two-wheeler. A strong portion of the bridge fell on Satyabrata and his daughter. The duo was on their way back home after Sheetal’s dance class. While Satyabrata lost his life on the spot, his daughter is still struggling with life at AIIMS. Doctors said that Sheetal is out of danger, but she is still unstable. The white colour Scooty, along with Sheetal’s bag are still lying on the spot. One can imagine how horrible the incident have been by
seeing the blood stainjs on the two-wheeler. Satyabrata was staying along with his wife and only kid Sheetal in an apartment at Jharpara area. He was doing plywood business at Mancheswar. Out of love for his daughter he had named the plywood shop in Sheetal’s name, said Satyabrata’s friend. The 11 labourers, who were working on the flyover that collapsed, thanked God for their survival from the devastating incident. Some of the construction workers were not even able to recollect the incident and all they remembered was a loud noise. “I am not able to recollect what
happened. All I can remember was hearing a loud noise. When I woke up I was in the hospital, “said Umesh Pradhan, a site supervisor. While some others who survived witgh small injuries regarded it as a miraculous escape from death. “We were working at the site and the structure suddenly collapsed. There was huge dust and we also got injured,” said Gyana Kermi and Tapi Bhoi, two construction workers. Binod Dung Dung, another injured worker, said, “I sustained minor injuries on my head and hands. I was busy at work. The mishap occurred in a fraction of a second. We had no time to escape. I thank the people who saved me.”
