Cuttack: If all goes well, the Burn unit at the Plastic Surgery department of Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here will soon have ultramodern facilities.
Sources said world-class facilities like modular operation theatre (OT), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ramp will be introduced at the unit with an allocation of Rs 1.77 crore by the Central government.
The foundation stone for the new facilities was laid here Monday in presence of several SCB officials, including dean and principal Sidhartha Das, Superintendent Prasanna Kumar Debata and Plastic Surgery senior professor Arun Kumar Choudhury.
“Apart from these facilities, a skin bank will also be opened at the Plastic Surgery department with a corpus allocated by the state government,” doctor Choudhury said, adding it would be instrumental in treatment of severely burnt patients. All the facilities will be operational within the next three months, the plastic surgeon said.
According to a senior plastic surgeon, the number of beds at SCB’s Burn unit will be increased soon. “Currently, the unit has facilities to treat a maximum of 15 patients. More number of beds will be put in place to make SCB at par with international standards,” the surgeon said.
