Malkangiri: Taking serious note of the suicide of a Class-X girl student due to sexual assault by the headmaster, the administration suspended four staff of Sikhapalli Sevashram Girls’ High School here. The girls’ body was found Thursday night inside her school while she committed suicide after being sexually assaulted by the headmaster, police said.
Kalimela tehsildar Santosh Kumar Nayak visited MPV-29 village and handed over a cheque of Rs 5 lakh provided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to the bereaved family. It was also announced that one of the family members will be appointed as a constable.
The staff who were suspended for dereliction of duty included headmaster Biswajit Sarkar, assistant headmaster Biswanath Lenka, assistant hostel manager Renubala Mallick and junior matron Sefali Kirtaneya.
Besides, contractual night watchman Pradip Munna was sacked from the job.
Meanwhile, villagers and members of the bereaved family Sunday met the Collector and the SP and sought justice in the case. They were assured that the police will thoroughly carry out a probe and all those involved in the incident will be taken to task.
The headmaster of the government-run residential school at Sikhpalli was arrested Saturday on the basis of a suicide note left by the deceased, Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena said.
Her note accused the headmaster of being involved in sexual assault of minor girls in the school.
During investigation into the 14-year-old student’s death, one more minor girl of the school told the police that she too was sexually assaulted by the headmaster, Meena said.
The headmaster was booked under various sections of IPC and POCSO Act.
The post-mortem report revealed that the cause of her death was an incised wound on the left wrist.
The police registered two cases – one for the deceased girl and another for the one who also accused the headmaster of sexually assaulting her.
