Rayagada: Acting on a tip-off, Rayagada police Friday claimed to have busted a sex racket operating in a rented house at Saipriya Nagar in Rayagada Town.
The police team conducted a raid in the rented house in Saipriya Nagar and rescued a woman while arresting six persons for their alleged involvement in the flesh trade.
The accused persons have been identified as Chandan Kumar Choudhury, Amit Kumar Laya, Biren Kumar Laya, Sibaram Dakua, Dukhishyama Kar and Jagannath Naik.
They were arrested following a raid conducted at Saipriya Nagar near Sai International hotel, just two km away from Rayagada police station, on the intervening night of March 13 and 14.
The police rescued a woman and seized several articles including seven mobile phones, Rs 37,440 cash, a car (Indigo CS), five packets of condom and other used condoms from the room.
According to reports, a team of Rayagada police headed by IIC Nihar Ranjan Pradhan raided a rented house and found six persons with a woman engaged in prostitution inside the room. They were found in a compromising state.
During an investigation, it came to light that the accused persons procured girls from different parts of Odisha and engaged them in the sex trade in the rented house, the police said in a release.
The women were allegedly used for a specific purpose of the brothel by exploiting them in a thickly populated centrally located having close vicinity to the educational institutions.
The Rayagada police registered a case against the accused persons under sections 4,5,6,7 of the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act and the accused persons will soon be forwarded to court. A detailed probe into the matter is underway, the police said.
