Once, movies were the main means of entertainment for the people. Later, music albums, TV serials and reality shows increased the entertainment choices available. Now, the digital platform is a favoured choice for many artistes seeking to make a wider impact. Actress Twinkle Mishra is active on all these platforms. She has hit albums like ‘Gabhara Gajara Gai Khaigala’ and ‘Priya Labanyabati,’ films such as ‘Dhanare Rakhibu Sapatha Mora,’ and ‘Mateta Love Helare’ and TV serials such as ‘Pari,’ ‘Sindurabindu’ and ‘Tulasi’ to her credit. On the digital platform, she will soon be seen in the short films ‘Dastan’ and ‘Lost.’
Twinkle started her professional acting career in 2005. She appeared in the hit number ‘Gai Khaigala’ opposite Bobby Mishra in the music album ‘Gabhara Gajara.’ Later, she featured in the Pabitra Naik directed ‘Priya Labanyabati’ where she was cast opposite Bulu. She has appeared in dance numbers, romantic songs and bhajans, and among her hits are ‘Halei Daucha All Odisha’ and ‘Swapna Sundari.’
Twinkle has also starred in a number of films. She played the character Rupa, sister of Mihir Das, in the Sanjay Naik directed ‘Dhanare Rakhibu Sapatha Mora.’ She also played the character Jaya, sister of Anubhav Mohanty, in the Ashok Pati directed ‘Mateta Love Helare’. She also acted in another film ‘Too Pain.’
On the small screen, she has anchored the TV show ‘Sanja Sakale Tuma Chhabi Khoje’ besides acting in hit TV serials such as ‘Tulasi’ (ETV Odia), where she played the character Jyoti, ‘Sindurabindu’ where she played Priya, and ‘Pari’ where she played Kiran. In Doordarshan’s ‘Suna Kalasha’ she played a double role. She has also appeared in the Gourishankar Das directed ‘Pratibimba’ aired on ETV Odia and in ‘Punyatoya’ where she played the character Usha. She said, “Since my fans often ask me not to play negative characters, I prefer playing positive roles. And, I like experimental characters like that of Sridevi in ‘Sadma’ or Rani Mukherjee in ‘Black.’”
Twinkle remembers the first time she faced the camera. “I was very nervous. However, with time I became comfortable.” Delivering dialogues comes naturally to the young actress. “That is one of the easiest jobs. Once you get into the skin of the character, dialogues automatically flow. My directors sometimes ask me to improvise when I deliver dialogues.”
Daughter of Manjulata and Kamalakanta Mishra of Bhubaneswar, Twinkle passed HSC from the Unit VIII Girls High School, +2 from Biju Pattanaik College and then +3 in History (Honours) from Utkal University.
“Besides acting, I am good at Odissi and modern dance. Also, my education helps me to improvise in acting. In fact, I have polished my acting skills on stage as a part of theatre groups like Satabdira Kalakar and Manan,” says Twinkle. She has proved her mettle on stage in the Ananta Mohapatra directed ‘Operation 81 kg’, staged at the Utkala Rangamancha as well as in plays such as ‘Sei Tini Jana,’ ‘Jagannathaya Namah’ and ‘Tathapi Doctor.’
The actress received the Amit Art Awards Bhubaneswar in 2005 (for best debutante) and was also honoured with awards at the Bolgarh Mahotsav (2005), Beach festival (2007) and Bhubaneswar Mahotsav (2008).
In Mumbai, Twinkle has appeared in some TV commercials and in the web series ‘Dahek.’ She also acted in ‘Tri Deviyan’ aired on Sab TV.
Among her upcoming projects, Twinkle is looking forward to the short film ‘Dastan.’ She says, “I had plenty of scope to explore my acting abilities in this project. I have a special appearance but the director expected me to shoulder the film. I will also be seen playing the lead role in another short film ‘Lost’ on the theme of feminism. Both these films will be released on the digital platform. Sthita Pattnaik is producing both the films and directing the second one. I had taken a break and he was the person who offered me a comeback chance and so I owe him.”
Twinkle’s favourite actors in Odia films are Aparajita, Babusan, Anubhav, Mihir Das and Mahasweta. Her Bollywood favourites include Aishwarya Rai, Vidya Balan, Amitabh Bachchan, Randeep Hooda, Nawazuddin Siddique and Aamir Khan. ‘Terminator,’ ‘Conjuring,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Baywatch,’ ‘XXX’ and ‘XXX Return of Xender Cage’ are some of her favourite Hollywood films.
At some point in the future, Twinkle hopes to expand her field of activity and be a social activist. She also has plans to open an acting school in Odisha.
