Malkangiri: In a cruel stroke of fate, two siblings aged nine and five became orphaned as their parents settled down with other partners.
Sthulak Kachim (9) and his sister Shruti Kachim (5) of Nuaguda village in this district are being looked after by their elderly grandmother.
According to reports, Babula Kachim and Bimala Kachim had a love marriage about 10 years back. In next two years, the couple became proud parents of Sthulak and Shruti. However, the relation between them soured resulting in separation.
While Bimala married another man and left the village, Babula also followed suit soon after. He left the village leaving behind his two children. In this scenario, the elderly grandmother, despite her illness, works round the clock to feed the kids.
Education of the kids has gone for a toss, said the old woman, adding, her repeated request seeking help from the administration has not yielded result.
Still the two were admitted to Nuaguda primary school to get at least one meal (MDM) per day.
The villagers urged the administration to rescue the siblings and ensure proper care by the child protection committee.
