Las Vegas: Former rugby legend OJ Simpson was set free again Sunday after serving nine years in jail following a botched hotel-room heist in Las Vegas which included the killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Simpson was released at 12:08 am PDT from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada state prisons, spokeswoman Brooke Keast confirmed. However, Keast also said that she is unaware of the driver who met Simpson upon his release and have no idea where Simpson was heading in his first hours of freedom.
The 70-year-old Simpson who has been serving the prison sentence from 2008 gains his freedom after being granted parole at a hearing in July. Unlike the last time he went free, 22 years ago but still he will face restrictions up to five years of parole supervision and is unlikely to escape public scrutiny as the man who morphed from charismatic football hero, movie star and TV personality into suspected killer and convicted armed robber.
“Simpson looks forward to reunite with his family and have planned eating a steak and some seafood and moving back to Florida”, Simpson’s attorney Malcolm LaVergne said. He also plans to get an iphone and get reacquainted with technology that was in its infancy when he was sent to jail.
The Florida Department of Corrections however said that the officials had not received a transfer request or required documents, and the attorney general said the state didn’t want him.
