Kendrapara: An elderly widow was allegedly gang-raped by a group of men Friday night at a village under Marsaghai police limits in Kendrapara district.
According to reports, the victim along with her daughter and son-in-law was staying at a rented house in Badapal Bazaar. She was working at the home and sugarcane field of Ghanashyam Behera.
Behera’s wife was annoyed by the woman’s presence and doubted her husband.
Friday, Behera’s wife allegedly insisted her brothers to outrage the modesty of the woman.
At around 2 am, six persons barged into the victim’s house and forcefully took the woman, her son-in-law and Behera to a secluded place in Ramnagar.
While Behera and the woman’s son-in-law were beaten up mercilessly, they allegedly took turns to rape the woman.
They also attempted to injure her private parts, reports said.
When the woman fell unconscious, they dumped her on the roadside and fled the spot.
The woman was admitted to a hospital. Police have arrested four persons in this connection and started an investigation.
In a similar incident, a 65-year-old widow was allegedly raped late last Monday night by a man in Soro municipality area in Balasore district.
Reports said the incident occurred while the woman was asleep at her house. A man from the locality reportedly broke into the house.
He then allegedly outraged her modesty and fled following which the woman tried to commit suicide.
She was rescued by family members, who immediately filed a police complaint.
