Bhubaneswar: Acting upon the reports on tempering of fuel measuring equipment at petrol pumps, state government has decided to form squads to carry out surprise raids on petrol pumps to check such practices.
“We will form squads comprising officials from oil marketing companies, weight and measures department and technicians, who will have in depth knowledge about the Japan made chip used for tempering of the equipments,” said food supplies and consumer welfare minister Surya Narayan Patro.
He said the squads will carry out surprise raids at various petrol pumps to ensure quality and quantity fuel to consumers.
However, Utkal Petroleum Dealers Association general secretary Sanjay Lath denied the reports about tempering and said, “We want to assure the public that we never tempered the equipments and will never do so in future also.”
Last month, the Union ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had informed that 86 petrol pumps in state were involved in the nation-wide racket to loot the consumers by tampering electronic equipments in dispensing units. As a result of which the consumers were receiving less petrol and diesel.
Following the information, the state government officials conducted raids at various petrol pumps but failed to detect any such tempering of equipments in any of the petrol pump.
