Move comes in the wake of shortage of regular doctors at the peripheral health centers across the state
Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to recruit medical officers on contractual basis with a view to deal with the acute shortage of doctors in the peripheral health institutions.
A notification issued by the state Health and Family Welfare Department recently to this effect states that the ad-hoc appointments will be made in the Orissa Medical and Health Services cadre.
Sources said the move comes in the wake of shortage of regular doctors at the peripheral health centers across the state. Currently, around 5,000 doctors are serving in government health establishments against the sanctioned strength of 6,719. However, the actual number of doctors required at various government health establishments in the state is above 8,000.
The contractual doctors’ recruitment will be in the category of assistant surgeon, specialists, and specialists (anesthesiology and radiology).
Assistant surgeons will draw a remuneration of `35,000 in non-KBK districts and `40,000 in KBK+ districts, while specialists will get `50,000 in KBK & KBK + districts (periphery), `45,000 in KBK and KBK + districts (DHH/SDH), and `40,000 and `45,000 in non-KBK and non-KBK periphery areas respectively.
Likewise, specialists (Anesthesiology and Radiology) would be recruited for DHHs/SDHs and their monthly remuneration will be to the tune of `50,000.
While the age limit is 68 years for all posts, the candidates must have to possess MBBS or an equivalent degree from an institute recognised by the Medical Council of India, the Health Department notification said.
Officials said that the recruitments will take place at district and state levels every month, except for the month of May and October though walk-in-interviews/counseling.
As per the department notification, the CDMOs at district level would initiate the recruitment process on the 15th of every month or the next day in case of any holiday. At the state level, the Directorate of Health Services has been authorised to conduct the recruitment process on the 27th of each month or the next day in case of any holiday.
