New Delhi: The Ministry of Rural Development has asked the state government to make sure that payments to the beneficiaries of the National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) are made only through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
This comes after the push for making Odisha and other states DBT compliant for payments relating to the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) as a whole.
The economic adviser of the ministry has told the state that the centrally sponsored scheme had come onboard with the DBT portal and measures should be taken by the state government to ensure compliance.
The ministry has asked the state government to ensure that beneficiaries of the scheme are paid their dues of the central scheme either through their bank accounts or through post offices.
Under the scheme, provision of grants was made in case of natural death of BPL primary bread winner. The primary BPL bread winner specified in the scheme, whether male or female, has to be a member of the household whose earning contributed substantially to the total household income.
