Balasore: Budding singer Subha Sourabh Mohapatra of Balasore nurses a great ambition: He wants to see Odisha’s art, culture and music take centre stage at national and international competitions.
“Our art, culture and tradition are great; Music is part of it. Our Odia race and state will have their place of pride at the national and international levels if our art and culture is promoted in a planned manner,” says Mohapatra, adding, “Odisha has no dearth of talent, but there is a need to push budding artistes in the field of music.”
Born to Padmaja and Subrat Mohapatra in Satyanagar area of Balasore, the budding singer aims to earn a name in the world of music. He has got awards at the district and state levels. His mother is an artiste in All India Radio, Sambalpur and a dancer. She has been inspiring her son to make a name in the field of singing.
Mohapatra, now studying Plus III Commerce, has learnt music from his mother when he was four years old. He started picking up music lessons from Kumar Mala Nath when he was seven.
“The other name of music is peace and happiness. Music changes moods. Doctors say some patients recover from their ailments by listening to music,” he observed.
Mohapatra takes pride in stressing that it was his mother who inspired him to learn music. “She is a singer as was well as a dancer. As I love music, she has taught me music from the very childhood.”
The boy was honoured by Rajya Kala Gabesana O Prasikhyana Parishad in 2010; LIC in 2013; district administration at Surabhi programme in 2011. He was first at the Akshaya Mohanty Music Competition in 2010.
Though music is his passion, he wants to be a chartered accountant by profession. “But all this depends on divine will,” he added.
Mohapatra, who loves songs of legendary Akshaya Mohanty and singer Human Sagar feels youths should focus on their studies first and bring out their latent talents.
