Bhubaneswar, July 24: Subhranshu Senapati (179, 286b, 23×4, 3×6) hit a magnificent century to put Orissa in the driver’s seat against HPCA on the third day of the four-day game of the K Thimmappiah cricket tournament at Bangalore, Sunday.
Orissa earned a crucial 24 runs first innings lead after notching up 422 runs in response to HPCA’s first innings total of 398. In their second essay, HPCA were 39/1 at stumps. Prashant Chopra (16 n o) and Abhimanyu Rana (14 n o) were occupying the crease at the end of the game. Ankush Bains was the only man to be dismissed, by Suryakant Pradhan (1/24).
Earlier, resuming from their overnight score of 144/2, day-2 hero Sandip Patnaik (75, 237b, 12×4) managed to add only nine runs to his score before being dismissed by Rishi Dhawan (3/85). Ranjit Singh and Biplab Samantray also failed to impress. However, Saurabh Rawat (46, 106b, 8×4) complemented well-set Subhranshu well and both of them added 111 runs for the sixth wicket for Orissa.
Mayank Dagar (4/70) and Rishi Dhawan were the pick of the bowlers for HPCA. Gurvinder Singh (2/96) and Akash Vashisht (1/79) also bowed well.
