Belpahar: At a time when the new generation is busy in the rat race, three youths of Belpahar in Jharsuguda district have proved that still some human values are left in the world.
According to sources, Bahadur Singh, an 80-year-old man, was battling for life with sores all over his body near Pada village. He had not taken food for days and was starving to death. Deprived of food, his body had become fragile and mind unstable.
“Save me … take me to a hospital …save me,” he was often heard saying. He wandered around in the area and survived on alms given by locals. Since a fortnight, his condition has been worsening. He could not beg for alms due to the sores and infected legs. People ignored his plight thinking he was a mental patient.
Then came the three Good Samaritans. Rakesh Suna, Brahmanand Suna and Sonu Sanda came to his rescue after spotting him unconscious near their club house. They called an ambulance and admitted him to the district headquarters hospital. They gave money from their pockets for the elderly man’s treatment, it was learnt.
“We are happy we did something to save a life,” the trio said. “We will try to draw the attention of the administration and take steps to help the elderly man rehabilitate and lead a better life,” they added.
Their good deed has drawn wholesome praise from everyone. PNN
