Bhubaneswar: Town Club will host the third edition of the Puspalata Garabadu Memorial Masters T20 cricket tournament at their own ground here December 8-17.
“Nine teams from Cuttack, Puri, Bhubaneswar and Jatni will take part in the tournament. All the teams have been divided into two groups. Group stage matches will be played December 8-13. Two semifinal matches will be played December 14 and 15 and the final will be played December 17,” stated Town Club sports secretary Manoj Kumar Mohapatra in a press meet Thursday.
Veteran players over 35 years of age will take part in the tournament. Scan Sporting will face Jatni Studs in the inaugural match. The winners will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with a glittering trophy, while the runners-up will take home Rs 11,000 and a trophy.
Medals galore
Four karatekas of Puma Academy, Keonjhar bagged 10 medals, including four gold, two silver and four bronze medals, at the National Karate & Kobudo Championships, which concluded at Sultan Bathery in Kerala, November 12.
Chandrabhanu Rai secured three medals including a gold in the 10-14 years individual kata of brown belt segment, a silver in the kumite event and a bronze in the individual kobudo bo event.
Piyush Kumar Deo Berma also won three medals including a couple of golds in the individual kobudo bo and individual kata respectively, and a bronze in the kumite event.
Among others, Madhusmita Jena bagged a gold in the senior women’s brown belt segment and a bronze in kumite. In the senior men’s brown belt category, Arya Kumar Sharma grabbed a silver in the individual kumita and a bronze in the kata event.
