Jatni: Two separate incidents of murder happening in succession have sent shockwaves in Jatni area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar Friday, exposing the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.
In both the incidents, the deceased were allegedly killed by their relatives.
In the first incident, a long drawn property dispute in a family took a tragic turn when a 63-year-old man died after his younger brother hurled bombs at him at Badaicchapur village in Delang police limits.
The deceased was identified as Gangadhar Sethi. The murder, suspected to be the fallout of prolonged property dispute, took place at 5pm.
The deceased’s son Sanjay alleged that his uncle Pandiya and others called his father out of their house and hurled bombs at him.
Although no written complaint was filed till the last report
came in, the police began a probe and sent the body to the district headquarters hospital in Puri for an autopsy.
In another incident, a youth stabbed his aunt to death over some family disputes in the College Road area here.
Jatni police Friday arrested accused Bikash Swain after registering a case in this regard as per a complaint filed by victim Sabita Swain’s husband Bipin Swain.
Sources said Bikash stabbed Sabita after a brief argument Thursday afternoon. Family members immediately admitted a critically-injured Sabita to a government hospital in the locality. She was shifted to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar after her condition deteriorated.
Sabita succumbed to her injuries Friday. It is learnt that victim’s family members had initially tried to suppress the incident but they opted for police complaint after the victim’s death at AIIMS.
“We have arrested the accused after registering a case in this regard. We are still probing the incident,” said an official of Jatni police.
