Bhubaneswar: The Regional Plant Resource Centre (RPRC) and Plant Lovers’ Association (PLA) organised the two-day annual state-level Flower Show at Ekamra Kanan in city Saturday.
Varieties of flowering plants such as marigold, dahlia, gerbera, zinnia, aster, calendar, impatiens, petunia, bougainvillea, poinsettia and chrysanthemum, besides several others are displayed at the show.
‘A Plant Bazar’ has also been created at the venue where over 40 nurseries and firms have displayed many ornamental plants, seeds, seedling, garden tools and fertilizers are available.
The organisers also hosted a ‘Garden competition’ in order to encourage the institutions and individuals to grow flowers and develop gardens to add to the beauty of the city. It is informed that over 90 entries were received for the competition.
Meanwhile, 300 entries were received for the flower show in various categories including cut-flower, flower arrangement, group display in potted flowering foliage category, vegetable carving and Rangoli.
Sudhansu Pati, a member of private college, who set the flower show along with his team said, “This Flower show is a great opportunity to share the beautiful nature with the visitors.”
The winners will be awarded on the concluding day of the show, i.e. Sunday.
There was also a stall which had many paintings and posters created by school children on display. These students had participated in a competition organised by PLA December 3, 2017.
A visitor, Sasmita Nanda said, “In this exhibition, the colourful arrangement of innumerable variety of flowers and plants at display was worth admiring.” (PNN)
