Balasore/Nabarangpur : Even after introduction of stringent laws to curb sexual abuse of minor girls, such heinous incidents continue unabated across the state. Six minors were reportedly raped over last 24 hours.
A Class VIII student was allegedly abducted and gangraped by two youths when she was on her way to answer the call of nature at Sanmari village Wednesday.
As per a complaint lodged by the girl with Nabarangpur police, the two youths intercepted her and forcefully took her to an isolated place.
As per the case, the youths repeatedly gangraped her and dropped her at her village Thursday morning. The youths warned her against revealing the matter to anyone. One of the youths promised to marry her if she kept the incident a secret.
Thursday, the girl lodged the police complaint with the help of Maa Ghara, a local NGO. “The accused will be arrested soon,” informed IIC, Nabarangpur, Tarak Mohammad.
“Our government and the administration have failed to protect minor girls, said Maa Ghara chief Kadambini Tripathy.
A 15-year old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour after she turned down his request to keep a relationship with him at Ria village. The accused was identified as Chenga, aged about 40, and he has been detained for interrogation, police said.
According to reports, the victim had been sexually abused by the neighbour many a time. He was forcing her to maintain physical relationship with him on a promise of marriage. After the girl rejected this, he raped her. The victim approached the Balasore child welfare committee to lodge a complaint.
A case was registered at Simulia police station Thursday on an order from the District Collector.
“During counseling of the minor girl, we came to know that she was repeatedly raped and sexually abused by the accused. The District Collector and the ADM were informed and they ordered filing of an FIR against the accused. The victim underwent a medical examination.
Her statement would be recorded before the magistrate in Balasore,” said Muktikant Panda, the legal-cum-probation officer of the district child protection unit. “Interrogation of the accused is under way,” said Prabhas Chandra Pal, Balasore SDPO.
