Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo, if reports here are to be believed, is keen to return to Manchester United where he plied his trade between 2003 and 2009. The Real Madrid superstar is tired of the ‘false’ promises made to him by club president Florentino Perez and is not keen at seeking a long-term future with the club.
Both the ‘AS’ and ‘Marca’ reported that Ronaldo has ‘already told his teammates he wants to return to Old Trafford.
After scoring twice in Real’s 4-1 Champions League final win over Juventus back in May, Perez had promised Ronaldo a lucrative upgrade to his contract. But no action has been taken and, despite Ronaldo’s public insistence that he wants to stay in Spain, things are working in a different direction which may see the Portuguese captain in EPL action.
Although Ronaldo reportedly earns around £3,65,000 per week at Real Madrid, the likes of Neymar (PSG) and Lionel Messi (Barcelona) earn substantially more than him. This is one issue which Perez said he would take care of, but nothing has transpired in the last six months.
Ronaldo, in his close to a decade-long association with Real Madrid, has scored 422 goals in 418 games in all competitions. This year, however, his La Liga form has been patchy as he has scored only four goals. However, in the Champions League, he has hit the target nine times in six games. Ronaldo had left Manchester United for Real Madrid in 2009 at a world record fee of £80 million then, in 2009.
