Bhubaneswar: The mutilated body of a 21-year-old woman was recovered from her rented accommodation at Kanan Vihar, an area coming under Infocity police station limits here, late Monday night.
Police said the deceased, Hasina Das, who hailed from Odatailo village in Jagatsinghpur, was working with a private pharmaceutical firm at Magnet Square. The young woman was staying at Plot No. 5 in Kanan Vihar Phase-II with a friend, said zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sitaram Satpathy.
At around 10.30pm, the landlord’s mother came downstairs to lock the main gate and spotted Hasina’s door open. Suspecting foul play, she went inside and found a lifeless Hasina lying on the mattress, a senior Infocity cop told the media.
On being informed, a team of the Infocity police reached the spot and guarded the house until Tuesday morning when investigations began. Satpathy reached the spot with Infocity inspector in-charge (IIC) Banita Moharana and a scientific team in the afternoon and began investigations.
“On the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s father Dasharathi Das, a case (104/17) of murder has been registered with Infocity police and the body was sent to Capital Hospital for autopsy, the ACP said, adding the reason for the woman’s death would be ascertained after the post-mortem report comes.
Meanwhile, the victim’s maternal uncle claimed that his niece was poisoned and raped before being killed. “Foam and blood was coming out of her mouth. There were three deep cut injuries on her throat. This apart, her lifeless body was lying semi-naked. All these indicated that she was poisoned and raped before she was killed,” he said.
