Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a woman was left battling for life after she was allegedly set on fire by her husband and her in-laws for using mobile phone in Talabarkot under Dhenkanal Sadar Police station Sunday.
She was rescued and admitted to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Later, she was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment as her condition worsened.
Source said, the victim’s husband Kulu Mallick along with her sister and mother allegedly doused kerosene on her and set fire after an argument over talking over phone.
The couple had been married for only a year and she had been tortured mentally and physically throughout.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband refuted all allegations against him and instead said that her wife and mother keep on arguing over every little thing.
On the other hand, the victim’s father alleged that his daughter’s in-laws had been torturing her and beating her up over silly issues. He also added that his son-in-law is always under the influence of alcohol and assaults the victim.
Acting on a complaint by the victim’s father, the Dhenkanal Sadar Police registered a case and launched a probe into the matter.
