Woman trafficked to Saudi helped by Pakistani cabbie

Rourkela: A day after Biswajit Mallick (30), a trafficking racket kingpin, was held on the charge of trafficking women to Saudi Arabia on the pretext of giving them lucrative jobs, a victim Sunday thanked a Pakistani taxi driver for saving her life.

“If not helped by the Pakistani brother, I would have been raped and forced to work at a parlour,” the victim said.

According to the victim Sharmila (name changed), she was engaged as a maid at a person’s house. When she protested, she was then forced to work in a parlour. A man chased her when she tried to escape from the parlour.

Fearing for life, she pleaded for help with a taxi driver. The man immediately got her seated in his vehicle and drove her to the passport office. During conversation, the man revealed that he was a Pakistani national.

“Although he came to know that I was an Indian, he helped me without any hesitation. It was indeed very kind of him. The only thing he said was that it was his duty to save me,” the woman narrated.

She further stated that Mallick had cheated about 50 women from various parts of Rourkela, Rajgangpur, Baripada and Kerala. He often took obscene pictures and videos of the women and blackmailed them.

In the gulf country, the women were forced to cook beef. They were even fed beef and were assaulted when they objected, Sharmila said.

According to Sharmila, Mallick was in hand-in-glove with a lady police officer in Raghunathpalli police station.

After police complaint, Mallick called the victim and forced her to withdraw the complaint by threatening her to release her obscene video on social media.

Left with no option, the woman made a video stating that Mallick was innocent. Mallick had then asked her to hand over the video to the woman cop. After much effort, Mallick was finally arrested from Kendrapara. The victim demanded stringent action against the accused.  PNN
