G. Udayagiri: In a heartrending incident, a woman and her two children were burnt alive in a fire mishap that broke out at their house in Magaraguda village under this police limits in Kandhamal district, Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Jhulima Pradhan and her two minor daughters Sonali and Rupali. While one of the girls was only nine-month-old, the other one was three-year-old, reports said.
All the three of them died on the scene. The exact cause behind the fire is not known yet. Meanwhile, police have reached the village and begun an inquiry into the incident.
“It is alleged that the mother was sleeping with the two kids in a room when the fire broke out.” G. Udayagiri police said they were investigating the cause of the fire from all angles.
According to sources, some locals spotted the blaze coming out from Pradhan’s house and rushed to their rescue. However, the three were trapped in the fire and were burnt to death. Later, locals alerted the fire service department who reached the village and doused the flames. However, by the time the fire tender team reached the village, the woman and her kids were burnt to death in the massive fire.
Reportedly, police have detained the deceased woman’s husband under suspect for interrogation. While some suspected, the woman’s husband of burning the woman and the two out of rage after a family dispute, some said, the fire might have erupted over cylinder blast.
“We are looking into all angles. We suspect the woman’s husband behind the act. However, interrogation is on and the exact reason will be revealed soon,” the IIC said.
