Malkangiri: A youth was forced to flee his village here after he was threatened with death by Maoists for refusing to join them. The incident was reported from Luchapani village in Chitrakonda police limits in Malkangiri.
Reports said the youth’s family had vacated the village some months back and had taken refuge in Chitrakonda.
Sources said the youth stayed back at the village after his family fled. However, Maoists approached him and tried to make him join them. They threatened him with death when he refused to join them and expressed his desire to join the mainstream.
With no other option he was forced to leave his village fearing for his life and has been wandering around in Chitrakonda since two days. He has not filed any complaint with the police.
When contacted, Malkangiri SP Jagmohan Meena said a report about the youth will be forwarded to the collector. Steps to help him will be taken as per the orders of the collector, he added.
This is the fate of many villagers in the Maoist-hit rural villages of the district. They have been wandering around like nomads. While many are seeking shelter with relatives some go to cities in search of work. The administration remains unaware of the plight of these people who would like to lead a normal life with a little help from the government. PNN
