Puri: A day after a 20-year-old college student from Baselisahi went missing in river Nuanai, fire officials Tuesday recovered his body from the river mouth.
Fire services personnel spotted the body and informed the Marine police who reached the spot and sent the body to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) for autopsy. “We have registered an unnatural death case in this connection,” Marine police station sub-inspector (SI) Yudhister Pradhan said, adding they will hand over the body to the family after autopsy.
Meanwhile, Ratnakar Sahu’s family members reached the spot and identified his body, sources said.
Ratnakar, a resident of Baselisahi, was on his way to take admission into Plus III at Gop College when the file containing his certificates accidentally slipped off and fell into the river while he along with his friend was passing on the bridge over river Nuanai.
A desperate Ratnakar parked the motorcycle on the bridge and took a plunge into the river to retrieve his certificates. Sources said though Ratnakar managed to grab the file containing the certificates, he was washed away by currents.
