Youth sent to jail for trafficking women to Saudi

Rourkela: Biswajit Mallick, 30, of Kendrapara was sent to jail on charge of trafficking women to Saudi Arbia Saturday, police said, adding he was nabbed from Kendrapara late Thursday night. Biswajit had sold two women of Deogoan on the outskirts of the steel city in Saudi Arabia at a whopping Rs25 lakhs in 2016.

However, the two managed to escape from the Gulf country with the help of Indian embassy. After their escape they lodged a complaint at Raghunathpalli police station December 12 last year. Manas Ranjan Swain, IIC, Raghunathpally police station, said “We had lodged a complainant against Biswajit on the allegation of a woman of Deogoan. We had launched a manhunt to arrest him. However, he was shifting from place to place. When we learnt he has come to his village Pokharia in Kendrapada, we sent a team to arrest him.’

We have sent him to custody. We are trying to find out whether there are other cases pending against him, Swain added. The woman was lured with an assurance of Rs40,000  per month in the Gulf country. She along with two other women set off for Saudi Arabia in April 2017.

“Biswajit took obscene pictures of mine and threatened to post them on social media. I am very scared now.  We have great faith on police,” said the woman. Another woman, who was also tortured before escaping from Saudi Arabia, said stern action should be taken against the culprit.

“I am not the only woman who was cheated by Biswajit. Fifty-odd women from Rourkela, Rajgangpur, Baripada, Mayurbhanja, Kerala and other parts of the country were trapped by brokers in Saudi Arabia. If we don’t agree to cook beef, they assault us. They even forced us to eat beef. If we objected, they brutally assaulted us” said another victim.  PNN
