Bhubaneswar: A conman duped half a dozen youths by promising them jobs and vanished with their money as well cell phones from two of them. Two complaints were lodged by the victims with Kharavela Nagar police station Wednesday.
The accused, Nrusingh Ratha, a resident of Dolamundei Sahi in Puri, along with his family has been staying in a rented house at Nuagaon village in Bhubaneswar.
According to the complaints, the accused allegedly collected money from some unemployed youths of the area by promising to get them jobs with ITC Company at Chandrasekharpur. He also took a J7 max Samsung mobile and one Nokia handset from two of the victims, Soumya Ranjan Sahoo and Tapan Kumar Bhoi respectively.
The victims, accompanied by the accused, arrived at the company to ‘join’ as trainees. However, before they could ‘join’, the accused went into the Kharavel Nagar branch of ICICI bank pretending to deposit their fee in Company’s account .He asked them to wait outside in the auto.
The victims realised that they have been taken for a ride when the accused did not show up even after waiting for him for more than a couple of hours. They searched for him at the bank and nearby places, but he was nowhere to be found.
They later lodged a complaint with the Kharavel Nagar police. Cops have started their investigations into the matter. They also checked footage of the CCTV cameras installed at the bank to identify the accused.
