Students go fishing during school hours

Chandahandi: Even as crores of rupees are expended in the name of raising the standard of education in government schools, students are often seen engaged in works other than studies, making a mockery of the entire system.

Once such incident came to the fore Monday at Beheramunda Upgraded High School in this block of Nabarangpur district where the students were seen catching fish in a nearby river in the afternoon.

Not only a few girl students, a lady teacher Mimili Bai of the school also actively participated in fishing in river Tel pushing studies into the backburner. All were seen collecting fish in polythene carry bags.

The headmaster of the school was not aware of the absence of the teacher, it was learnt.

When contacted, block education officer Bhajanlal Majhi, took the matter casually saying he would look into it.

Bai, who was catching fish with the students, refused to make any comment.   PNN
