Bhubaneswar: Everyday it’s like a carnival in Bhubaneswar as far as fashion is considered. From new product launches to flashing brands, models are walking the ramp with grace and style.
There is an increasing demand for fashion models these days, and there is every possibility of Bhubaneswar getting the fashion capital tag. There is also a significant jump in the number of fashion shows. The expansion of the media has given a boost to the ad world, which in turn has upped demand for models. Not surprisingly, the shelf life of models has increased too.
Orissa POST talked to some of the agencies, model co-ordinators and professional models to know how modelling has become a serious career option in Bhubaneswar.
John from Addiction Fashion Management in Nayapalli said, “See my firm is registered and we try to accommodate young models, new faces and groom them. We shoot their portfolios and help them by providing
platform. More firms may come up in the city as the modelling scenario is fast developing. I think that modelling has become a serious career option in Bhubaneswar.”
Jay Samant who runs Jaas Entertainment, a modelling firm said, “I run a firm for upcoming models and we groom and train them to sustain for a long time. As a model coordinator, I find it satisfying that the city is becoming a model’s place like Bangalore. We also provide the same kind of professional models like big names in the country.”
Model Sushmita Pradhan says, “Bhubaneswar has become the hub of fashion. Every month there are at least four to five shows, and yes we models are getting excellent work. Initially, it was try your luck, but now every other person gets work.”
“Be it gold ornaments or premium watch brands, luxury cars or mattresses, the option is endless as Bhubaneswar is slowly becoming a hot favourite fashion capital. Modelling is not an easy job, but a dedicated profession that requires lots of efforts, hard work and diligence. You never know where you might land,” said model Shruti Sriya.
Subodh, a male model said, “Initially, the salary of a model used to be somewhere around `5,000 and `10,000 per show. However, with experience one can earn between `20,000 and `45,000. If you bag a commercial the earnings go up depending on your status and the brand. Bhubaneswar modelling agencies are growing and so is the demand for models. I believe if you can take care of your physique there would be enough work.”
Ratan Shaw, another model said, “One may not believe, but more than female models the Bhubaneswar fashion industry is looking for male models. And it feels good to be in the modelling industry.”
“If you have the height and the talent to become a model then smart city Bhubaneswar is the right place to be in. The city is expanding and so are businesses. Therefore, to expand business they need to shoot advertisements, go for ramp shows and much more. Over all, models are very much required and the future of models is quite bright,” Tusar, a male model asserted.
