Bargarh: In a bone-chilling incident, a 15-year-old boy was taken from his home and brutally killed by miscreants who subsequently dumped the body under a bridge and fled, Sunday.
The heinous incident has spread outrage in VSS Nagar Bisi Colony under ward-9 here in this district. The deceased boy has been identified as Inesh Tandi, son of late Sadanand Tandi.
Irate family members and relatives placed the body on Gandhi Chhak main road and staged a demo by burning tyres and placing huge stones and wood, demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants and compensation for the bereaved family.
The agitators attributed the rise in drugs and liquor consumption in the area for the murder and demanded immediate steps to curb the illegal activities.
Vehicular movements came to a standstill following the strike. On receipt of information, SDPO Khirasagar Naik, Bargarh MLA Debesh Acharya reached the spot and tried to pacify the mob.
The strike that began in the morning was called off 5pm in the evening after the officials assured of immediate arrest and compensation for the boy’s family. The officials provided Rs 20,000 from Red Cross; assured pension for Inesh’s widowed mother and a job for his brother.
According to family members, Inesh had gone out with his friends Saturday evening and did not return him. Family members grew apprehensive and searched for him, but there was no trace of him.
Based on a complaint, police launched a probe and spotted the body lying in a pool of blood under PC Bridge in Burla and sent it for autopsy.
Meanwhile, police detained seven youths for interrogation who are reported to be behind the gruesome murder. However, police is yet to confirm their link in the murder.
“Interrogation is on and we will arrest the killers soon,” the SDPO said.
