Bhubaneswar: At least 1.84 million BPL households in the state are yet to be provided with electricity, Energy minister Pranab Prakash Das informed the state Assembly Tuesday.
Replying to a member’s query, Das said 25.91lakh BPL houses have power connection and 18.45lakh households are yet to be electrified.
At least 2.29lakh households in Ganjam district were yet to get electricity connection. Mayurbhanj has 1.35 lakh houses, Koraput 1.16 lakh houses, Puri with 1.07lakh and Nabarangpur with 94lakh households which need to be electrified.
Das said several schemes and programmes such as Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification under 12th Plan, Biju rural electrification scheme, Biju urban electrification scheme and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana are under implementation to provide electricity to BPL households.
Meanwhile, the Energy minister said the BPL consumers are provided electricity up to 30 units per month at `80. He further informed the house the state has an electricity burden of `5538crore and the burden due to BPL electricity consumers is around `310crore.
