Bhubaneswar: Mancheswar Police Tuesday arrested two persons including a woman for allegedly smuggling 35kg of ganja. The accused have been identified as Prasanta Sahoo (28) of Puri and Neha Haldar (26) of Kolkata.
A police patrolling party led by Sub-Inspector Meena Bindhani detained the duo after finding them moving in a suspicious manner with 3 large airbags on the Puri bypass road near Pandara Chhak. They were dropped there by an Ola cab, said police.
A search of the bags revealed 35kgs of ganja. According to the police the two used to smuggle ganja from Koraput district to sell it here. The duo is also alleged to be involved in a sex racket with an intention of loot. As part of their operations, the girl used to attract men by standing on roadsides and when they used to bargain with her, her accomplice used to attack them and loot their valuables.
Sahoo was earlier involved in rape and dacoity cases too. A case was also registered against him in Mahila Police station for the murder of his wife.
A case (302/16) has been registered against the accused for smuggling ganja and police are investigating the matter.
