Cuttack: Two youths were killed and two others sustained grievous injuries when an unidentified person fired gunshots at them in a concert hall at Katikata Bazaar near Nischintakoili in Cuttack district, Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Imran (25) and Nityananda Mallick (30) of Parasailo village.
According to reports, following a verbal spat between Imran and a person at the concert hall, the latter pulled out a pistol and fired at Imran, killing him on the spot.
Hearing the gunshots, others who were present at the hall approached towards the spot. The accused suddenly opened fire at them as well following which three of them sustained critical bullet injuries.
The injured persons — Raghunath Mallick (16), Uttam Das (30) and Nityananda Mallick (30) — were admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. However, Nityananda succumbed to the bullet injuries while undergoing treatment Thursday morning.
After committing the crime, the accused immediately fled the spot. The police have started an investigation.
