Boinda: The police have finally solved the deaths of two minor boys of Hatasimili village whose bodies were found buried near a drain November 5 in Ranibandh village of Angul district 12 days after they were reported missing. The father of one of the dead boys is among the four suspects arrested, police said.

The dead boys are Sipun Nayak, (14), son of Bijay Nayak and Amulya Nayak, (17), son of the main accused Bhimasen Nayak.

A preliminary probe found that the boys had died after they came in contact with live wires drawn by Amulya’s father Bhimasen and his friends Lochan Nayak, Susant Nayak and Chinu Nayak to trap wild boars.

In a bid to destroy evidence, Bhimasen buried the bodies hastily, including that of his son, near the canal with the help of his friends. Later, he lodged a missing complaint with the police.

The incident comes after the repeated electrocutions of tuskers by live wires laid by poachers for killing wild boars.

Bhimasen had tried to mislead police claiming that the boys were killed as they knew about the illicit sexual relationship two youths had with a woman of the village.

Although the police initially suspected it to be a case of human sacrifice in the context of Dussehra, the truth came out after one of the suspects spilled the beans during interrogation. Based on his confession, police arrested the four, including Bhimasen.

Sources said Bhimasen was a regular poacher. He killed wild boars and sold the meat. As usual he and his friends had laid live electric wires in a field near the canal to kill wild boars.

He was not aware that his son Amulya and his friend Sipun had gone fishing in the canal before sunrise.

Bhimasen who went to the spot to see if any boar was caught in the trap saw his son and friend dead. He panicked and informed his three friends who decided to bury the bodies.

Twelve days after the boys went missing, some fishermen fishing in the canal detected a foul smell nearby and informed villagers. The villagers then saw hands sticking out of a pit and called the police.

Angul ASP BK Pradhan, Thakurgad IIC Babakhya Nayak and Athamallik Tehsildar B Mohapatra rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.

The police team dug the bodies out of the pit and sent them for post-mortem at the Athamallik Sub-Divisional Hospital.

The incident shocked the area. “How can a man just bury his son to save himself,” a man said. The villagers have demanded strong action against Bhimasen.
