Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: With the ramping up of operations by many IT firms in the state along with foraying of new IT firms, the state expects total exports of IT services to grow by 20 per cent this fiscal.
“As many IT firms namely Wipro, Infosys, Tech Mahindra have decided to increase headcount in their state-based facilities, this will result in more IT exports. Also, foraying of new IT firms into the state will push up this trend. Overall, we expect IT exports may see a growth by 20 per cent this fiscal,” Director of STPI, Manas Ranjan Panda told Orissa POST.
He also said IT exports from the state during 2014-15 were at Rs 2, 564 crore against Rs 2,317 crore reported during 2013-14. On the exports scenario, Panda said, “Orissa is in forefront and has made significant progress in IT exports. The state is also creating quality IT infrastructure in the state.”
The exports turnover of units which are in STPI Bhubaneswar has grown to Rs 2,564 crore in FY15 in last 15 years with 11 per cent CAGR. This has put the state in a commendable position in the IT map of the country. Orissa occupies a position within the first 10 leading states in IT exports, he said. “IT exports from Orissa are higher than the national rate since 2006,” he said adding that the sector is likely to maintain the same momentum in coming years.
