Bhubaneswar: Nearly 120 mm rainfall within 33 hours of the cyclonic storm Titli has once again put the entire workforce of Team BMC on high alert and action mode.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) local office, while the city received nearly 97 mm rainfall between 8.30 am October 11 and 8.30am October 12, the city received more than 20 mm rainfall from 8.30am till 2.30pm Friday, causing waterlogging in many low-lying areas.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Helpline had received 37 complaints since Thursday night and all were addressed, said the civic body sources. While the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC) received 26 complaints till evening, BMC Storm Water Control Room (SWCR) registered 11 complaints.
Since Thursday midnight, 14 pumps had been pressed into service at different locations by the Odisha Fire Services and BMC deployed its pumps at seven locations across the state Capital.
The major locations where pumps were deployed, include: Gouri Nagar, Shriram Nagar Lane 10, Mallick Complex Jagamara, Ratna Villa, Gouri Sankar English Medium School, Nayapalli Behera Sahi, Nandan Vihar, Jayadev Vihar Corporation Gali, Paika Nagar, Bishnupriya Apartment, Padma Apartment Gali near Naka Gate, Tirumala Tirupati Kalyan Mandap, Jayadev Vihar, VSS Nagar, Near Ortel Office CS Pur, Krishna Garden, Acharya Vihar, Padmavati Vihar and Jaydev Vihar Kalyan Mandap.
BMC in coordination with all line departments is running a multi-agency control room for 24X7 surveillance of the situation. Nodal officers from BDA, and Revenue, Public Works, Water Resources and Fire Services departments, and PHEO are part of the multi-agency control room. The multi-agency control room works in three shifts – 6am to 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am.
BMC sources said citizens from low-lying areas and vulnerable pockets across the city can register their complaints through Bhubaneswar Operations Centre 18003450061 and with the SWCR on 0674-2432281.
