Bhubaneswar, March 27: As many as 3,387 cases of fake caste certificates have been registered in the last 15 years, SC/ST development minister Lal Bihari Himirika informed the Assembly Friday.
Himirika was replying in writing to a written question of Congress member Prafulla Majhi. “A total of 3,387 cases of fake caste certificate have been registered in the state between 2000 and 2015 in various RDCs. Of these, while 715 cases have been resolved, 2,622 cases have remained unresolved,” Himirika said.
The information shared by the minister reveals that RDC (south division) Berhampur has received 2,304 such cases of which 1,686 are from Kandhamal alone. In RDC (SD), of the total such cases, 1,800 cases are pending while 504 cases have been finalised.
RDC (North Division), Sambalpur has received 866 cases in the last 15 years of which 710 cases are yet to be resolved. The RDC (central division), Cuttack has received 167 fake caste certificate cases during 2000-2015 of which 112 cases are pending.
“The process for settlement of these cases is time-consuming. However, we have urged the RDC divisions to dispose of these pending cases as early as possible,” the minister said.
