New Delhi: A human rights activist Wednesday knocked the doors of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking an independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged Kunduli gang-rape case in Orissa.
The activist, Radhakanta Tripathy, who is also a Supreme Court lawyer in the national capital, Wednesday reached the NHRC office along with another lawyer and submitted his complaint before the human rights watchdog seeking a CBI probe into the matter.
He also demanded a visit by a special NHRC team to get first hand information.
“Today we met the NHRC officials and submitted our memorandum on the controversial case and requested them to visit the state for getting ground report and scrutinising the matter besides demanding a CBI probe into the matter,” Tripathy said.
He argued that if the minor girl was not raped why the government made her to visit different hospitals in the name of medical examinations and also if the girl was not raped why compensation was announced, setting a bad example.
In the letter, Tripathy also argued that the state government had failed in counselling the minor which led to her death.
He also tried to corner the government on why a minor boy who was allegedly not even made an accused had been made to undergo a polygraph test against the established norm.
