Sambalpur: In a heartrending incident, a newborn baby girl was rescued from a paddy field, wrapped in a white cloth at Santikira village near Goshala and Burla in this district, Monday.
Villagers noticed the cute little angel lying in the middle of the harvested paddyfield when they were on the way to having their morning ablutions. They alerted the police.
Curiously, the baby girl had braved the chill weather amid the prevailing Nor’wester (Kalabaisakhi) rain. Dogs and other animals too did not harm it.
The Goshala outpost police arrived in the village and checked on the health condition of the baby. Later, the police with help from a local ASHA worker took the baby to the Burla-based VIMSAR. Doctors checked on the baby’s health condition and it was stated to be stable.
Locals were deeply perturbed over the way the newborn was abandoned by its mother, possibly an unwed girl.
