Shergad: Police arrested eight persons Monday on charges of murdering Krushna Swain, a resident of Gobindpur village near here in Ganjam district.
A case of murder has been registered in this connection and the eight accused were produced in court Monday. They were remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.

Meanwhile, the main accused Mahendra Swain, Babuli Swain and Meher Swain are on the run, SDPO Sri Panda and IIC Biswaranjan Nayak told the media during a press meet Monday.
The murder was fall-out of an old enmity.
According to the case diary, the deceased along with his aides had earlier assaulted the main accused Mahendra and his friends while they all were employed in a company in Surat.
Since then Mahendra and his friends have been looking for an opportunity to eliminate Krushna. They attacked Krushna while he was returning home from a liquor shop April 6, 2018. They hacked him to death on the spot and fled the scene. Acting on a complaint by Krushna’s brother, police registered a case and formed three special teams to arrest the miscreants.
The police also seized swords and axes, three motorbikes, 10 mobile phones and an auto-rickshaw from their possession.
“We are probing the matter and the absconders will be arrested soon,” Aska police IIC said.
