G. Udayagiri: In a new twist to the rape incident at Telisahi village under the jurisdiction of G. Udayagiri in Khandamal district wherein an Army jawan had outraged a woman home guard Friday night, the accused married the victim at a temple here Sunday evening.
The marriage took place after the jawan, Tulu Pradhan (32) of Tikabali, currently posted in the Army’s Bihar Regiment, decided to marry the victim. He then conveyed his decision to the police during police interrogation.
Incidentally, the victim too gave her consent to the marriage. Following this, the nuptial rites were solemnised in the temple in presence of their family members.
The marriage was conducted as per rituals wherein Pradhan promised to maintain the dignity of the marriage and accept the victim as his wife.
According to sources, Pradhan had come home on official furlough when he committed the crime.
He allegedly barged into the woman home guard’s house while she was alone in the house Friday night. He then took her to the house roof top where he allegedly outraged her modesty.
