Bhubaneswar: Odisha government Friday decided to set up 20 new hospitals at an estimated investment of `1,000 crore in the public private partnership (PPP) mode.
The decision in this regard was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here in a bid to improve healthcare facility and provide it at the doorstep of the people. The hospitals will be opened in 11 high priority districts under Odisha Health Service Investment policy-2016, officials said.
The government has decided to set up 20 hospitals to provide 2700 beds at the initial stage and the effort would generate 10,000 job opportunities.
As part of the state government’s Health Service Investment Policy-2016 the hospitals will be set up in Puri, Jeypore, Angul, Barbil, Baripada, Bhadrak, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Phulbani, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Subarnapur, Rayagada, Parlakhemundi, Rairangpur and Kendrapara districts.
These hospitals will be constructed under the Hub and Stock model of the state government’s Affordable Healthcare Project. Some of these hospitals will act as Hub (central hospital) while others will function as Stock (branch hospital), a CMO press release stated.
While orthopaedic, medicine, gynaecology, paediatric, anaesthesia, eye, ENT, dental, X-ray, skin-care, mental disease, trauma care and emergency units will come under Spoke hospitals, the Hub hospital will have heart disease and neurology wards apart from the above mentioned wards.
These 20 proposed hospitals would cater to the 57 per cent bed problem in the districts. While these hospitals will be accorded National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare (NABH) accreditation, 50 per cent of their beds will be in the general ward, the government said.
Patients under the implemented Insurance and Assurance scheme and Select Category will also reap the benefits from these hospitals.
The press note also said the decision will attract an investment of `1000 crore in the private healthcare sector and create 10000 jobs to the benefit of para-medics and women.
Last week, Patnaik had announced a new health scheme named Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana which would provide health benefits of `5 lakh per family per annum. About 3.5 crore people of 70 lakh families are expected to get the benefit with effect from August 15.
