Aska: In a heartrending incident, a petty dispute over the addiction of cellphone usage between a man and his son led to an extreme tragic situation near here.
According to reports, a young boy hanged himself to death after he was reprimanded by his father for using his mobile phone constantly and watching TV ignoring studies. The man is reported to have advised his son to focus on his studies. Following suit, the man also hanged himself in a state of remorse after the boy’s death.
The incident was reported from Kusapada village near Dharakote in Aska block of Ganjam district Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Rajendra Panda and his son Kalpabata Panda.
According to reports, Kapabata, an ITI pass out, was addicted to his mobile phone. He would often play games or keep himself busy in chats and social media throughout the day that did not go well with his father.
This led to an altercation between the Bata and his father who found the boy playing games on his mobile phone Friday evening. Annoyed Rajendra reprimanded the boy over excess use of the mobile phone and advised him to pay attention to studies.
Irate over his father’s scolding, Kalpabata ran away from the house late in the night. Family members searched for him, but in vain.
Later, some locals spotted Kalpabata’s body hanging from a mango tree in an orchard near the village Saturday morning and informed the deceased’s father.
Family members rushed to the spot and identified the body. Meanwhile, Rajendra, blaming himself for the tragedy, also hanged himself from a tree while the locals were busy recovering the body.
He was then rescued and rushed to Aska sub-divisional hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
After getting information, police recovered the two bodies and sent those for post-mortem.
A pall of gloom descended on the village after the tragic incident. Police have started investigation into the matter.
