Brahmagiri: The place has earned pride and dignity for the state because of presence of Lord Alarnath Deb revered by millions of devotees not only from Odisha but also from rest of country and abroad.
Throwing light on the historical significance of the shrine, researcher on Jagannath culture Surendra Mishra said many religious preachers had visited the shrine in the past multiplying its glory worldwide.
Mishra was addressing a seminar on ‘Aitihyare Alarnath’ organised by Brahmagiri Aitihya Parisad here Sunday.
According to him, “Sri Chaitanya had visited Brahmagiri for Lord Alarnath’s darshan. Sikh Guru Nanak Deb had also visited the shrine between 1508 and 1509. Initially, he had visited the Srimandir for Lord Jagannath’s darshan, but he had to come here for Alarnath’s darshan as he couldn’t have a glimpse of the former.”
He had left for Sri Lanka after spending a night at Gopinath Deb temple in Gorapur area, he said.
Highlighting the importance of the place, Mishra said, “Hemant Kumar Singh of Brahmagiri area was one of the five close followers of Sikh Guru Gobind Singh. Hemant had joined Hindu Surakhya Sangram (a movement for protection of Hindus) under the influence of Gobind Singh’s ideology. He was martyred and was posthumously known as Himmat Singh for his extraordinary bravery, Mishra added.
The seminar was also attended by Gurudwara Aropi Saheb Baba Samsher Singh, Debendra Singh, Ramashankar Patra, Brahmagiri police station inspector-in charge Pravat Mallick, writer Kasturi Dillip Srichandan, Kashinath Nayak, Priyaprasad Mishra, Nilamani Suar and others.
