Nabarangpur: Police cracked the murder mystery of Ganesh Kumar Majhi, a para teacher whose mutilated body had been recovered from a canal in mysterious circumstances Friday and arrested the main accused, a police constable, Saturday.
A preliminary probe revealed that the murder was the fallout of an extramarital affair. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Prasant Kumar Sahu of Khandakuda village while his aide Babula Mishra of Rajoda village under Kosagumuda block is on the run.
A case was registered and Prasant was produced in court. The absconder will be arrested soon, police said, Nabarangpur SP Bibekananda Sharma revealed at a press meet.
According to police, Prasant was engaged as a constable at Tentulikhunti police station while his wife worked as a teacher where Ganesh worked. Through some source, Prasant learnt that his wife was having an extramarital affair with Ganesh and hatched a plan to eliminate him.
As per the plan, he convinced Babula and later called Ganesh to an isolated place on some pretext. A heated argument ensued after Ganesh reached the spot. In an act of revenge, Prasant and Babula brutally killed Ganesh. They then chopped his body into pieces and packed them in a bag and dumped it in a canal. The two then took Ganesh’s bullet bike and dumped it in a well.
Police registered a missing persons’ complaint in this connection. However, later Ganesh’s body was recovered from the canal after which the police registered a murder case and launched a probe to pin down the culprits.
During the probe, police learnt about the extramarital affair and detained Prasant who confessed to the crime. He claimed he had asked Ganesh to stay away from his wife. However, Ganesh continued relationship with his wife forcing him to kill Ganesh, Prasant confessed.
