Aradi: Hundred hectares of croplands in as many as 25 villages of Sundarpur, Olaga, Aradi and Nandpur panchayats are lying submerged, leaving the farmers worried.
While farmers were in distress over the flood water from Salandi dam being released five days ago, the recent flood in Baitarani river has added to their woes.
Bodak, Sathibankuda and Amrutmani of Olaga panchayat, Muan Santara and Sitalpur of Aaradi panchayat, Pahana, Bankamuhan and Nandpur of Nandpur panchayat, Khatuapatna, Sundarpur, Paradia and Dohara Patna of Sundarpur panchayat are some of the badly affected villages.
The receding of standing flood water on croplands is getting delayed as the sea remains rough due to the frequent occurrence of low pressures, locals said.
“This season we have had more rainfall for farming. And the flood water has made matters worse. If the water continues to be stagnant for two more days, the prospect of crop loss is inevitable,” the farmers of these panchayats observed.
Besides Dohara Patna village road, school road, and some portion of Aaradi-Muan(Chandbali) road and Dhana Khania-Aaradi road are lying submerged.
