Berhampur: School students in Ganjam will no longer sit on the floor to study as the district administration launched a programme titled ‘Tale Basibaku Naa’ at Hilpatna here on the occasion of Teachers Day Wednesday. Now, they will have chairs and desks for study.
Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange inaugurated the project at Project Upper Primary School in Hillpatna. Students will have chairs and desks which will be provided to various government schools under ‘Mo School Abhiyan’. The Hilpatna school was the first to receive chairs and desks under the programme.
Praising the objectives of the programme, the Collector said the newly provided chairs and desks will be of immense help to students to study better. He also interacted with the students and asked them to study well and grow up as good citizens.
The Collector further said the programme is part of the state government’s initiative to impart quality education through infrastructure development.
This is meant to do away with the past practice of sitting on the floor of classrooms for study as it was affecting the students’ health. All the government schools will be provided with furniture in phases and funds for the purpose will be mobilised through the ‘Mo School Abhiyan’. The government will grant twice the money contributed by the guardians, social outfits and former students for the purpose, the Collector said.
District education officer Dr Sanatan Panda, additional district education officer Binita Senapati, Rangeilunda cluster resources centre coordinator Prabhati Mohapatra, school headmaster Radha Ballav Patnaik, school management committee president Saroj Kumar Samantray and a host of educationists and dignitaries were present at the event.
