Berhampur: Government schools in Ganjam district will undergo an image makeover to bring about a conducive atmosphere for academics in the campus under the state-sponsored ‘Mo School Abhiyan’ project, a report said.
The matter came to fore when the Mo School Abhiyan’ Chairperson Susmita Mohanty visited the government schools in Ganjam district Monday. Mohanty was accompanied by Professor Subhra Raje from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad and New Delhi based- architect Sibananda Bhol during her visit to the district.
As part of the programme, the school buildings in Ganjam district will undergo structural and design changes to draw students to the schools, she said.
Mohanty visited the Hillpatna Girls’ Project Upper Primary School where she reviewed the chairs and desks provided to the school under ‘’Tale Basibaku Naa’ scheme of the project. She also visited the medicinal plant garden, which the school authorities have raised on the campus, and reviewed various other steps taken by the authorities to instill an educational atmosphere in the school premises. Later, she met the students and interacted with them on the new look of the school premises and discussed further improvement.
Mohanty, elaborating on her visit, said that stress is being laid on to bring about changes in the school premises for a better educational atmosphere. A review is being undertaken on the type of chairs and desks to be put up in the classrooms and their colours. Similarly, the school buildings will undergo structural and design changes. Currently, steps needed to be taken to foster a better educational atmosphere in the premises are being deliberated.
She said that discussions are on in this regard for which a designer and architect are accompanying her in the visit to gain firsthand experience before initiating any change in the schools.
Mohanty said that she visited the City High School in Berhampur in April where the old chairs and desks have been given an aesthetic look to make them more attractive for the students. The students are also finding it easy and comfortable to use the old chairs and desks in their new look.
The team members, after completing their stock taking, left for Balaji Vidyapitha in Kanishi, Kukudakhandi Model School and the City High School in Berhampur. District Education Officer Sanatan Panda, Rangeilunda CRCC Prabhati Mohapatra and headmaster Radha Ballav Patnaik accompanied Mohanty during her visit to the school.
